Hygiene

Bushcraft hygiene requires specific products: lightweight, compact, durable, and, if possible, eco-friendly. It's impossible to carry a classic toiletry bag in an already loaded backpack. At Pyrene Bushcraft, we offer waxed canvas toiletry bags made to last, and organic travel-sized hygiene products designed for the field: chewable toothpaste, shower powder, and a compact toothbrush. The bare minimum needed to stay clean on an outing without weighing down your pack.

The toiletry bags we select are made from waxed canvas, a robust material that is water-resistant and ages with character. The hygiene products are organic, formulated for minimal environmental impact, and packaged in formats that eliminate common field problems: no leaking tubes, no spilling bottles. The whole set fits into a storage pouch or directly into your pack.

Choosing the right hygiene gear for bushcraft outings

Waxed canvas toiletry bags: travel kit or roll-up?

The classic travel kit offers structured compartments to organize your toiletries. The roll-up format rolls up and can be hung from a branch or a tarp guy-line, providing immediate access to all contents. Accessory pouches (small, medium, large) complete the organization: they separate hygiene products from other gear or serve as versatile storage for small equipment.

Organic chewable toothpaste

Chewable toothpaste tablets replace the classic tube. You chew, brush with a compact travel toothbrush, then spit. No need for potable water. Available in fresh mint and icy mint, they store easily in your pack. Refills allow you to reuse the original container, reducing waste on your outing.

Organic shower powder

Shower powders (lemon verbena, almond milk) offer an ultra-light washing solution. A pinch of powder, a little water taken from your water bottle, and you can refresh yourself after a day's walk. Always wash away from water sources (at least 50 meters) to protect the ecosystem, even with an organic product.

FAQ: Bushcraft Hygiene

Can you go without soap on short outings?

For a short weekend trip, yes, if you wear merino underwear, which naturally limits odors. But oral hygiene remains important regardless of duration. Chewable toothpaste and a compact brush weigh nothing.

Is waxed canvas water-resistant?

Yes, that's one of its main advantages. Waxed canvas repels water on the surface and protects contents from splashes and light rain. For complete immersion (canoeing, prolonged heavy rain), place the toiletry bag in a dry bag.

How do you care for a waxed canvas toiletry bag?

Wipe with a damp cloth after use. Air dry. Rewax periodically with beeswax to maintain waterproofing. Avoid machine washing and harsh detergents, which degrade the wax.
