At Pyrene Bushcraft we offer a carefully chosen selection of bushcraft alcohol stoves and their accessories. Whether you prefer a compact burner for ultralight trips or a complete system with an integrated cookset, our range covers every need of the demanding bushcrafter.

Why choose your alcohol stove at Pyrene Bushcraft?

Our selection of alcohol stoves favours proven reliability and exceptional durability. Unlike gas stoves that depend on proprietary canisters, methylated spirit can be found anywhere, even in the most remote shops. That logistical independence makes the alcohol stove a valuable ally on long trips. Every system we stock benefits from Scandinavian design proven by decades of intensive use. The brass burners are exceptionally hard-wearing, the cooksets sit perfectly over the flames, and the whole thing nests intelligently for compact carrying in your backpack.

Buying guide: how to choose your alcohol stove

The essential selection criteria

Choosing an alcohol stove comes down to intended use and acceptable weight. Burners on their own weigh under 100 grams and fit anywhere. Complete systems include cookset, frying pan and windshield for an all-in-one solution. Tank capacity determines your burn time: a standard burner gives 25-30 minutes of combustion, enough for several meals.
The material affects durability and weight. Brass burners stand up to years of intensive use. Ultralight aluminium cooksets appeal to minimalist hikers, while stainless steel or titanium versions are tougher still.

Types of system and what they are for

The burner on its own suits purists after absolute minimalism. Paired with cookware you already own, it cuts the weight you carry. Complete systems bring everything together in a compact nesting set, perfect for bivouacs under a tarp.
Accessories improve the experience: matching kettles, simmer rings for gentle cooking, anti-freeze bases for winter use. These additions turn your stove into a genuinely versatile camp kitchen.

Advantages and limitations

The alcohol stove excels through mechanical simplicity: no moving parts, nothing to break down. It is completely silent, which respects the quiet of the outdoors. Alcohol travels safely, with no risk of explosion at altitude. Heating time is longer than with gas, though: allow 8-10 minutes to bring a litre of water to the boil.

Our selection of alcohol stoves

Our catalogue covers the whole range, from individual burners to expedition systems.
  • Basic burners are perfectly suited to boiling water for your filtration systems or reheating meals.
  • Ultralight systems are the preferred choice of solo hikers, with an exceptional weight-to-function ratio.
  • Group systems allow genuine cooking with their generous pans. We also stock all the essential accessories: fuel bottles, lids, spare seals and carry covers.

Getting the most from an alcohol stove

Correct use means safety and performance. Never refill a hot burner: it can ignite instantly. Wait until it is completely cold, fill to two thirds at most, close the bottle and move it away before lighting with your usual fire kit. Preheating improves efficiency in cold weather. To put it out, use the snuffer supplied rather than blowing. Maintenance is minimal: clean the jets regularly with a fine pin and check that the seal is still tight.

FAQ - Bushcraft alcohol stoves

Which alcohol should I use in my stove?

Go for methylated spirit (denatured ethanol), available in hardware shops and supermarkets. Medical 90% alcohol works but costs more. Avoid pure methanol, which is toxic if inhaled for long periods.

How much alcohol should you allow for?

Allow roughly 10 ml per minute of burn. To bring a litre of water to the boil, allow 80-100 ml depending on conditions. For a solo weekend with 6 meals, a 500 ml bottle is more than enough.
Does the stove work in hard cold? Yes, down to around -10°C without special measures. Below that, keep your bottle warm in your sleeping bag overnight and use an effective windshield.

Can you really cook on an alcohol stove?

Absolutely, although temperature control is less precise than with gas. The simmer ring lets you cut the flame back to simmer. Gentle cooking means adjusting how much alcohol you pour in to begin with.
