Small Hatchet
Small hatchet hand-forged in Sweden. Compact and precise for woodworking at camp.
Description
For over 100 years, Gransfors Bruk has produced hand-forged axes in Sweden with an emphasis on quality and environmental responsibility. Experience and expertise that make Gransfors Bruk the benchmark brand for axes.
Every axe is developed to perform as well as possible in its field of use.
Every axe is made using the minimum of raw material (recycled and recyclable).
Every axe is made with respect for the people involved. Gransfors Bruk is particularly attached to the fact that the smiths stamp their initials on the axe heads they forge.
The Small Hatchet is the lightest of all Gransfors Bruk axes.
Its weight makes it the ideal tool for hiking and for days in the woods where every kilo counts. This axe works well for light pruning and splitting, despite its small size.
It was made by the smith Lennart Pettersson (LP). Lennart, an axe smith, knifemaker and fisherman, set out to produce a very light axe without losing the "feel of an axe". He rounded the poll slightly so it can work as a priest (used to strike a fish on the head).
This little axe is surprising. Surprising in how miniature it looks. It almost seems like a toy.
But once it is in your hand and you set it to wood you quickly understand it is no toy. It is a Gransfors Bruk! The Small Hatchet is seriously effective in its field!
The edge is convex and then widens gently. A profile that helps the head enter the wood and stays effective for splitting.
The shape of the sheath, which also covers the upper part of the head, prevents any contact between the axe head and your backpack.
The axe comes with a natural-tanned leather sheath and a copy of The Axe Book (in English).
Its strengths are its size and light weight, which mean you will not think twice about taking it hiking, fishing or for a walk in the woods. You may not need it, but if you do it will be there!
