What we liked about the Bushmen model is its simplicity.
No emergency whistle, no compass, no plastic buckle. Just 6 m of paracord and a small ferro rod. An elegant way of carrying a length of paracord with you.

A length of paracord is very useful for:
Attaching and securing your kit
Trapping
Rigging a fishing line
Building a shelter, pitching a tarp
Replacing a lace, a belt...

The ferro rod is minimalist but enough to throw sparks capable of lighting tinder. To do that you rest the rod on your finger as in the last photo. In that position it is easy to hold it firmly in place and run the striker over it.
