Hult Splitting Axe

The Hult Splitting Axe is close to a maul in size but has no hammer poll on the back of the head for working with wedges.
The handle is 75 cm, the head weighs around 1500 g for a total weight of about 2 kg.
The shape of the head is reminiscent of certain splitting wedges. A raised boss in the centre of each face increases the thickness of the head, the better to burst the wood open without slowing its penetration too much.

It is a classic model for splitting logs, to use out in the field or in the garden.

The Swedish steel head is hammered many times during forging to increase its density and so its longevity. Convex edge, sharpened and polished, ready to use.
Straight hickory handle treated with linseed oil.
Supplied with a leather sheath.

The whole thing is very well balanced and delivers a striking force few logs will resist. A formidable tool!

Tip: freshly cut wood is easier to split, so do not leave it too long after felling.
