The Splitting Axe KLY RA is close to a maul in size but has no hammer poll on the back of the head for working with wedges.The handle is 75 cm, the head weighs around 1300 g for a total weight of about 1900 g.
The shape of the head is reminiscent of certain splitting wedges. A raised boss in the centre of each face increases the thickness of the head, the better to burst the wood open without slowing its penetration too much.
It is a classic model for splitting logs, to use out in the field or in the garden.
Supplied without a sheath.
The Swedish steel head is hammered many times during forging to increase its density and so its longevity. Shot-blasted finish.Convex edge, sharpened and polished, ready to use.
Straight hickory handle treated with linseed oil.
