Hatchet Short Axe - Red Elm

Roselli is a Finnish maker of knives and axes.

Heimo Roselli, its founder, quickly developed a passion for forging and for metals. It took him many years of trial and error to find the right pure carbon steel that makes the brand's name today. The result: knives and axes that are very understated and take an impressive edge.
Heimo Roselli drew on carpenter's axes to develop the Roselli Short Axe. The result is that distinctive shape, with a curved return on the head that lets you place your hand level with the edge for work needing precision and finesse.

Another distinctive feature of the Roselli Short Axe is the width of the head at the edge: wider than rival axes. That makes this hatchet unbeatable for splitting wood. Its wide, convex edge parts the wood effectively and there is very little chance of the axe jamming in the wood.

When it comes to felling, the Roselli Short Axe does the job just as well. Its wider head naturally penetrates the wood less well than a conventional head, but with a good angle of attack and a good swing you will easily get through trunks up to 15-20 cm in diameter. The head alone weighs a full 500 g.

A small flat area on the back of the head lets you use it as a hammer to drive nails, tent pegs...

Supplied with a leather sheath to protect the edge. A loop on the sheath lets you carry it on your belt.

In 2022 Roselli brought out a new version, the Short Axe Red Elm.
It differs from the standard version in a new handle design (in red elm) and a tanned leather sheath.
