Sharpening Stone
Finnish sharpening stone made from natural phyllite. Quarried for centuries in Västilä.
Description
The Wastikivi sharpening stone is made in Finland in the village of Vastila, where there is a phyllite deposit renowned for its abrasive qualities.
This deposit has been worked for centuries and its sharpening stones have been exported the world over. Offered by Roselli, who use it to sharpen their own knives, this Wastikivi stone is just as suited to bringing back a badly sharpened knife as it is to finishing work or keeping an edge.
Roselli recommends wetting the stone while sharpening. That carries away the heat of friction and gives a gentler edge.
