The Therm-a-Rest Z-Lite Sol has the same features as the Z-Lite, a great classic among foam mats, but adds an aluminised surface to increase its insulating power. That takes it from an R-Value of 1.7 to 2.0 for only 10 g more.

Aside from that new aluminised surface, the Z-Lite Sol owes its high insulating power to its closed-cell structure, which traps air between the mat and the ground.

The new polyethylene foams used for the Z-Lite are softer on top for better comfort and denser underneath to give very high resistance to abrasion. You will not worry too much about where you lay it down.

In practice it is best to sleep on the aluminised face when it is cold, so that part of the heat your body gives off is reflected back to you. When temperatures are milder, or hot, turn the aluminised face towards the ground.

Its accordion design makes it very compact to carry. The best insulating power / packed size / weight ratio of all closed-cell foam mats.
