Scout or Army Firesteel: which one to choose?
The firesteel remains the benchmark tool in bushcraft. Composed of a ferrocerium alloy, it produces sparks reaching 3000°C. Scout models are compact and lightweight, perfect for EDC or as a backup. Army versions have a thicker rod, producing more generous sparks with a longer lifespan.
For regular use, the Army format is recommended. The Large and Medium models offer an excellent compromise. Some BIO firesteels offer handles made from coconut shells, combining ecology with a pleasant grip.
