Why choose your shelter at Pyrene Bushcraft?
Our selection favours long-lasting materials and proven designs. Polycotton (a cotton-polyester blend) is breathable, tough and naturally weatherproof. Modern technical fabrics offer low weight and performance. Every shelter has been chosen for its ability to take on the demanding conditions of 4-season bushcraft.
Our shelter range includes:
- Nordic tipis: roomy, wood stove compatible, perfect for longer camps
- Lavvus and traditional tents: Scandinavian inspiration, toughness and versatility
- Tarps: minimalist and light, with many possible configurations
- Technical tents: light and capable for moving camp
- Accessories: pegs, guy lines, inner tents
These shelters pair perfectly with our sleeping gear and our wood stoves for comfortable nights even in hard cold.
Buying guide: choosing the right shelter
Tent, tipi or tarp?
- A tent gives complete protection from the elements and from insects. 4-season models stand up to wind, snow and driving rain. It is the reassuring choice for difficult conditions or for beginners.
- The Nordic tipi (or lavvu) offers generous space and comfortable headroom. Its conical shape sheds rain and snow naturally. Above all, it takes a wood stove inside, turning your shelter into a heated refuge even at -20°C.
- The tarp is the minimalist approach to bushcraft. Light and compact, it can be pitched dozens of different ways depending on the ground and the conditions. It asks more of your skills but gives you a direct connection with your surroundings.
Which material should you choose?
- Polycotton (or technical cotton) combines the advantages of cotton and synthetics. Breathable, it limits condensation inside. Tough, it resists UV and abrasion. Some models take a stove jack thanks to their heat resistance.
-
Synthetic fabrics (nylon, polyester) favour low weight and quick drying. Ideal for moving camp where every gram counts, they need more attention to ventilation to avoid condensation.
Wood stove compatibility
If you plan to heat your shelter, check that it is stove compatible. Nordic tipis and some tarps have built-in or optional stove jacks. That option transforms winter comfort completely and lets you dry kit and clothing.
Our shelter categories
- Our tents include roomy Nordic tipis, traditional lavvus and light technical tents. From one-person models to large family tipis, in polycotton or synthetic fabric depending on your priorities.
- Our tarps come in different sizes and materials: light compact tarps, tough polycotton tarps, tarps with an integrated stove jack, and multi-purpose tarps usable as a poncho or emergency shelter.
